Hurray! A Jon Esparza original all to myself!
Mike and Mindy is the tale of two kids with nothing better to do than cause and get into trouble! It’s cartoon mayhem in the tradition of MAD Magazine and The Far Side.
Q: What prompted you to start a web comic?
A: Two rejections from MAD Magazine and the harsh realization that there just isn’t a whole lot out there for a humor cartoonist. The web seemed like a logical next step. Plus, I have all the freedom in the World doing it this way!
Q: Which strip is your favorite?
A: (Laughs) That ain’t a fair question! I love all my strips! But there are some that just really stand out among the readers. I feel the firstMike and Mindy really set the bar for the series. M&M #’s 10, 19, 23, 30 and 32 are all among the best. However, M&M #36 (December 2012) is my favorite. Why? It’s the only one that doesn’t have any crazy antics. It’s a sweet tale with a good lesson about being kind and generous towards others.
Q: Plans for the future?
A: For now, just keep plugging away. I’ll more than likely be ending M&M at the end of 2014 along with my other series, Mushrooms. But I do have a new series already in the work and I promise it’ll be CRAZIER than ever! I’m also looking to possibly make the jump into animation!
Q: What other web comics do you read regularly and think others should too?
A: Oh man, there are so many! Caaats!, Zombie Boy, Zorphbert and Fred, Red’s Planet, Kat Daycare, Lilith the Dark, Graveyard Gang, Picpak Dog and Austin’s Inferno just to name a few. Vinnie the Vampire is great too! I really wish I could name them all! Web comics are true gems!
